Tensegrity is a principle that helps to connect multiple rigid bodies by cables to create structures that somehow seem to float in the air.
The partially counteracting tension of the cables support some of the rigid links to stay in their position without any direct contact to the environment or the base link(s).
In the recent decade, tensegrity became more and more popular in robotics to build flexible but robust structures.
Researchers hope, that tensegrity robots are able to explore rough terrain on earth and other planets with much less (financial and resource) effort than current systems.
Although current prototypes seem promising, there is still a long way to go.
In this seminar topic, you should give an overview on selected tensegrity robots and discuss major challenges.
